Move for Hunger, a nonprofit organization that Ridgewood Moving Services (Ridgewood Moving) supports, accepts food donations from people that are fighting to end world hunger. The organization depends on these donations to keep starving families fed! We often help out Move for Hunger by collecting nonperishable food items from our clients during a move. On its own, the organization often holds food drives to fill up food banks in order to make a difference in the world.

Food donations are important, but the food being donated is just as important as the donation itself. For example, making sure the food will last a long time and is healthy is extremely important. There are even items that are often overlooked, such as baby food, that could use a lot more attention during food drives. That’s why Sarah Cuellar, a writer at Move For Hunger, wrote a blog post about food that we should be donating to the organization. While these are not the only things that Move For Hunger wants, they are nonetheless important and are worth discussing. Please take a look:

Baby food

Options for babies and children often get overlooked. Just make sure it isn’t loaded with sugar or artificial dyes. Wholesome options are best.

Healthy Snacks

Most donations are for meal ingredients, but snacks are appreciated too. Some healthy snacks ideas include nuts, dried fruit, granola bars, seeds, and popcorn.

Canned Meat

Canned meats like tuna, chicken, and salmon are easy ways to add protein to a meal. They also have a long shelf life.

Spices and Olive Oil

Food is pretty bland without spices. Cooking supplements like oils and spices help turn random ingredients into delicious and wholesome meals.

Canned Fruits and Vegetables

Fruit and vegetables are a vital part of a healthy diet. Canned versions are a great addition to your food drive. Make sure that the fruit doesn’t contain syrup and that the vegetables are low sodium.
